REPORT ON THE SERVICE USER REFERENCE PANEL OPEN MEETING 21 MARCH 2007 WITH ABINA GRIFFIN – USER LEAD OF SURP
THIS IS AN OPEN INVITATION TO GET INVOLVED – YOU CAN GET TRAINING TO HELP YOU DO THIS.
To find a third member of Surp to chair one hour of the meeting as it lasts three hours. This will spread the load and also bring people on board who thought they would never chair anything. The key things I wish to reflect on concerning the meeting are the very encouraging number who attended and the way more people are gaining confidence by expressing their views in such a large forum. We have decided to set up some new groups eg. There will be a Surp Black and Minority Ethnic group with at least 8 members. Another new group will be the Mental Health Act Group sothat we can influence good practice in regard to our colleagues on a section. As I work with the Mental Health Act Commission In theory, I am hoping for a triangular communication between Surp and the local Mental Health Act forum. I close by saying that the success has been the unique and developing chemistry between its members alongside the support and facilitation given to us by the Service Development Workers as part of their wider remit.’
