RUN A WORKSHOP WITH ANOTHER SERVICE USER!!! This might sound scary, but there will be training in May – read the bit further on about what it felt like learning to run a workshop for a member of SURP when she first tried it! See the attached list of planned workshops to see if you’re interested in running one of them

Becoming Stronger Together
Conference Workshop OutlinesThe workshops will be run by Service Users who have attended training, in pairs. The points which come from them will be written down and sent to those who fund and provide mental health services so that our views are clear to them. If you’re interested in being one of the Service Users who will run the workshops, the following information might help you decide what you’d like to volunteer for. It lists each workshop with some ideas about what we hope to find out. Remember, training will be provided!! Mind My Body: We want to know how you feel about the drugs you’re prescribed. We’d like to know your experiences of side-effects, and if medication with less side effects is available but you aren’t offered that choice. There are also issues about being over-medicated, and treated against our will. Coming Together – Improving networks locally, working towards common goals: Your views on how we can learn to stand together, act together, get information out to all Service Users and Carers, get the best from services. Stigma sticks: How can we respond to being treated badly and being judged wrong because we have mental health problems? We need to find ways to stop this discrimination and look after ourselves. Rooting for Ourselves – Routes to Recovery: Ways to improve our mental health and to express ourselves - a chance to share with others. Improving Involvement in Day Services: What’s stopping you getting more involved in the day services you attend? What support would you need to be stronger? What alternatives could we run ourselves? There are very skilled people among us - how can we draw on their experiences? Is Anybody Listening? Making Care Planning a more positive experience for ourselves and those who care for us: How can we influence our own care and be heard? How can we make the Government’s ‘Choice’ agenda work? The Care Programme Approach can be haphazard, sometimes negative – we need to know how it works and make the most of it. Skills for involvement – the skills we bring and those we need to contribute to mental health service planning and development: We all have life skills and experience – how can we support each other in developing these to become stronger? What training do we need? How can we tackle positive involvement and following through with action and visible results?
