A mental breakdown is probably the worse form of mental illness, it can be triggered by anything, but normally after a particular traumatic event (this can be personal, link to relationship, berievement, loss of job or a disaster). How to recover after a breakdown? it takes time.. it is very important to take things slowly.. one step at a time, and often recovery is a rocky road. sometimes medication will help this process and it's important to seek advice from your GP about whether medication is right for you. Rebuilding one's life after a breakdown can be really painful.. often abilities one use to have are lost.. (but they do come back when you're out of the worst part of it).. there's more information on rebuilding your life after a breakdown on the MIND WEBSITE

Breakdowns can be shattering, and are life changing, but all is never lost, be strong and hang on to that thread of hope that can keep you from falling, with friends and family you can be strong again

This is so true - to never lose hope - and the support of friends, and family can help you through the toughest times. Just knowing someone cares, or doesnt judge you, makes a massive difference.
